Designed for zoning

Airzone focuses on ducted air-conditioning systems built around room-by-room dampers, balanced airflow and practical control layouts.

Smart everyday control

We set up thermostats, schedules and zone logic so families and office teams can cool or heat only the rooms in use.

Local project delivery

Our team handles design, installation and support across Johannesburg and Pretoria, with solutions suited to local homes and offices.

Comfort with efficiency

Zoning reduces waste by directing conditioned air where it is needed, helping improve comfort and manage running costs.

What zoned air-conditioning means in a real home

Zoned air-conditioning lets you cool or heat different rooms separately instead of running one setting through the whole house. That is useful when bedrooms face the afternoon sun, a living area opens onto a patio, or a home office needs comfort during the day while other rooms stay quieter. With ducted systems, dampers direct air where it is needed and smart thermostats keep each zone under control.

For many Johannesburg and Pretoria homes, the biggest gain is not only comfort but better use of power. You are not wasting air on empty rooms, and you can set the system to suit actual routines. In winter mornings and hot summer afternoons, that difference is easy to feel. It also helps where load-shedding has made people more careful about how and when they run cooling equipment.

  • Room-by-room temperature control
  • Ducted systems for neat, hidden installation
  • Smart thermostats for daily and weekly schedules
  • Practical comfort for bedrooms, living areas and studies

What we supply for homes and offices

We supply complete zoned systems, not just one part of the setup. That includes the design of the ducting layout, selection of suitable units, room-by-room dampers, controls programming and the balancing work needed for proper airflow. If a property is being built, we can work from the plans. If it is an existing home or office, we assess the space and check what can be adapted without unnecessary disruption.

Our work covers both new installations and retrofits. Some homes in Sandton, Randburg or Pretoria East have the space above ceilings for ducted air-conditioning but need a careful redesign. Other properties need upgrades because the current system struggles in peak heat or certain rooms never reach the right temperature. We also take on seasonal servicing, fault finding and system upgrades, so the system keeps performing after the first install.

Who we serve across Johannesburg and Pretoria

Our work is suited to homeowners, small offices, medical suites, professional spaces and developers who need dependable climate control without messy visible units in every room. We serve clients who want a cleaner finish, more control over different rooms, and a team that can explain the system in plain language. We also assist property owners who are replacing older equipment that no longer copes with Gauteng heat or the way a building is used today.

From Johannesburg to Pretoria, the needs are often similar but the buildings can be very different. A townhouse in Centurion may need quiet bedroom zoning and good airflow in a compact footprint. A family home in Bryanston or Pretoria East may need separate control for upstairs rooms, the kitchen and a study. An office in Sandton may need weekday programming and simple operation for the people using the space. We plan for that from the start so the system fits the property, not the other way round.

  • Homeowners wanting better comfort and control
  • Offices needing room-based scheduling
  • Developers planning for neat ducted installations
  • Property owners looking to upgrade older systems

How we handle a project from first visit to handover

We keep the process practical. It starts with a site assessment, where we check the building layout, ceiling space, insulation, room use and electrical conditions. From there, Kagiso Dlamini and the design team handle the load calculations and system layout, while Ian Mokoena oversees the bigger picture and the right fit for the property. The aim is to get the sizing right, because an undersized or poorly balanced system will always cause complaints later.

Once the design is agreed, our installation team plans the work around the property and the people in it. Reece Naidoo manages the installation side, and Ayanda Khumalo keeps communication moving so clients know what is happening and when. After installation, we test the controls, balance the airflow and confirm that each zone responds as it should. If a room is getting too much air or not enough, that is adjusted before handover. Good systems should feel straightforward to use, not fiddly.

We also support seasonal servicing, especially before the first hot spell or after a long winter. Dust build-up, dampers out of adjustment, filters and control settings can all affect performance. A small service now is cheaper than a callout during the first heatwave when everybody wants the same thing at once.

Why clients come back to Airzone

Clients come back when a system keeps working the way it was explained to them. That usually comes down to honest sizing, neat workmanship and a team that understands local conditions. In Johannesburg and Pretoria, properties deal with dust, dry winters, summer storms and power interruptions. Coastal humidity is not the issue here, but temperature swings and how buildings hold heat definitely are. We design with those realities in mind, not from a one-size-fits-all approach.

There is also value in having one team that can look after the system over time. Megan Pretorius and the support team keep service and follow-up organised, while Naledi van Wyk manages operations so jobs move properly from assessment to completion. Clients often return for upgrades, extra zones or servicing when the home changes, for example after an extension, a converted study or a new bedroom wing. That is common in family homes around Pretoria East, Randburg and Centurion.

Since 2009, the business has grown from a professional presence on the Airzone domain and early email use in Johannesburg into a dedicated local service for zoned comfort. The history matters because it shows continuity. People want to know who they are dealing with, who is accountable and whether the company will still be there when they need help later. Ian Mokoena has kept that focus since the beginning, and the team has grown around the same standard.

Areas we cover and the kind of properties we know best

We are based in Johannesburg and cover Pretoria with regular work across the main residential and business areas. That means we understand the pace of work in the northern suburbs, the property types in the eastern side of Pretoria and the mix of older and newer buildings across the metro. Whether the job is a family home, a renovated townhouse or a small office, we plan the system around the building and the people using it.

Our main coverage includes Johannesburg, Sandton, Randburg, Pretoria, Centurion and Pretoria East. If you are in one of these areas and need a zoned air-conditioning solution, we can handle the design, installation or servicing without making it more complicated than it should be. It is often the simple things done properly that make the biggest difference.

The team behind the work

Airzone is led by Ian Mokoena, with a team built around design, operations, installation and client support. That structure matters because zoned systems need more than a quick fit. They need planning, careful sequencing and proper follow-through. Kagiso Dlamini handles senior HVAC design work, Reece Naidoo leads installation on site, Ayanda Khumalo coordinates service, Naledi van Wyk keeps operations moving and Megan Pretorius looks after customer support. Each role supports the next one, which helps keep projects on track.

When clients call again months or years later, they usually want the same practical response they got the first time. Maybe a study now needs its own zone, or a bedroom is warmer after a new roof section was added. Maybe a business has changed its hours and wants the thermostats reset. The point is that the system should keep fitting real life, not just the day it was installed.

If you want room-by-room comfort that is planned properly and maintained by people who know the area, Airzone is ready to assist. Email design@airzone.co.za for a site assessment or to talk through a new build, retrofit or system upgrade.

Questions we get asked

Do you only install new systems, or can you retrofit an existing home?

We do both. If there is ceiling space and the building allows it, we can retrofit a zoned ducted system into an existing home. We also handle new build installations from the plan stage.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Johannesburg and work across Johannesburg, Sandton, Randburg, Pretoria, Centurion and Pretoria East. If you are nearby, ask and we will confirm coverage.

Do you help after installation is complete?

Yes. We provide seasonal servicing, airflow balancing, fault finding and system upgrades, so the system keeps working properly as the property changes.
