Led by Ian, built for practical results
Ian Mokoena founded Airzone in 2009 and still keeps close to the work, from early site walks through to final sign-off. He has spent years shaping zoned air-conditioning for Gauteng homes, offices and mixed-use spaces, so the advice stays grounded in what actually fits the building, the budget and the way people use each room.
As Managing Director, Ian looks at the full picture: capacity, controls, airflow, access for servicing, and how a system will behave in Johannesburg heat or Pretoria summer humidity. He works best on projects where details matter, because the right answer is usually the one that is planned properly from the start.
Operations that keep the jobs moving
Naledi van Wyk manages operations and keeps the work flowing between assessment, scheduling and delivery. She coordinates the moving parts that clients do not always see, including site access, installer timing, materials, service bookings and follow-up after handover. On busy weeks, that kind of organisation makes the difference between a project that drags and one that lands properly.
Ayanda Khumalo handles service coordination and is often the first person clients speak to when they need a seasonal service, a fault check or a quick answer about a system issue. She knows that air-conditioning problems rarely happen at a good time, so she keeps communication direct and helpful, especially when a unit is under strain during a hot spell or after a power interruption.
Design work that starts with the building
Kagiso Dlamini is our Senior HVAC Designer and spends his time on load calculations, duct layouts and control planning for each specific property. He does not guess at system size or damping needs. Instead, he looks at room use, envelope conditions, occupancy and how the air should move from space to space, whether the job is in Sandton, Centurion or Pretoria East.
His work matters most when a property needs room-by-room control without wasting energy or creating dead spots. Kagiso also helps with retrofit projects where the existing structure brings limits such as tight ceiling space, difficult access or older finishes that must be protected while the upgrade is done.
- Site assessments and measured load calculations
- Ducted zoning layouts for homes and offices
- Control planning for smart thermostats and dampers
- Retrofit design where existing ceiling space is limited
Installation and balancing done on site
Reece Naidoo supervises installation work and makes sure the job is fitted, tested and balanced properly before handover. That includes ductwork checks, damper operation, thermostat setup and airflow balancing, because a zoned system only performs well when each room gets the air it was designed to receive. Reece is also the one who keeps installers focused when site conditions are awkward or time is tight.
For new builds and retrofit installations alike, his priority is a clean finish that still allows for future servicing. In Johannesburg and Pretoria, where dust, heat and load-shedding all place extra pressure on equipment, the installation has to be practical from day one not only neat on the last day.
- New build installations and retrofit installations
- Airflow balancing after system start-up
- Controls programming and system checks
- Coordination with builders, electricians and ceiling teams
Support after handover, not just at handover
Megan Pretorius leads customer support and keeps clients informed before, during and after a job. She handles queries about seasonal servicing, system upgrades, fault finding and follow-up scheduling, so there is always a clear contact when something needs attention. For office clients in particular, that steady communication helps keep downtime short.
The team works across Johannesburg, Sandton, Randburg, Pretoria, Centurion and Pretoria East, so Megan also helps coordinate coverage between areas when urgent work comes in. Her approach is straightforward: answer quickly, record the issue properly, and make sure the right person is lined up to sort it out.
That support matters after a power cut, during a humid stretch near the end of summer, or when a homeowner wants to know why one room is not cooling as it should. Good service is not about saying the right thing, it is about getting the matter seen to.
The way we work across Gauteng
Every team member brings a different part of the process, but the method stays the same: assess properly, design for the building, install with care, and support the system after the handover. That is how zoned air-conditioning keeps working in real homes, busy offices and buildings that see long hours, changing occupancy and regular use.
Based in Johannesburg and covering Pretoria, Airzone has grown around practical service, long-term relationships and the kind of follow-through that clients remember. If you need site assessments, system design or servicing for a ducted zoned system, our team is set up to help from first call to final check.
